Shower door manufacturers: USA, Mexico or Asia?
US shower door factories offer speed at the highest labor cost. Asian factories, mainly in China, offer the lowest factory price but add weeks at sea, more glass breakage and US import duties. Mexican factories in Monterrey sit between them: lower cost than the US, no tariffs on our doors and delivery by truck in days.
| USA | Mexico (Monterrey) | Asia (mainly China) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tariffs into the US | None, domestic | None on our doors | Can carry heavy US duties |
| Transit to US job sites | Days | Days, by truck | Weeks at sea, plus port and inland |
| Glass handling | Low | Low, loaded once and unloaded once | Several transfers and crane lifts |
| Labor cost | Highest | Lower | Lowest at the factory gate |
| Visiting the factory | Easy | A short flight | A long trip |
| Best for | Small or urgent orders | Project volumes that need price and speed | Very large programs that can absorb duty and transit |
US factories
Domestic production means no import duty and short delivery, which suits small or urgent orders. The trade off is the highest labor cost and, for many buyers, layers of distribution between the factory and the job site.
Asian factories
Asia, led by China, offers the lowest price at the factory gate and very large capacity. For US projects that advantage is reduced by import duties, weeks of ocean transit and repeated handling of fragile tempered glass, where one broken panel can hold up a unit.
Mexican factories
Monterrey is the largest tempered glass cluster in Mexico, about three hours from the Laredo crossing. Doors move by truck, are handled far less, and our doors enter the United States with no tariffs. For project volumes that need both price and speed, that is the strongest combination.
